Morning Coffee and Metro Day
It's obvious that Amado and I enjoy making things the hard way like homemade pasta for example. My cousin Anna and her husband Ron gave us a gift card and we quickly went to William Sonoma to pick up a hand-crank coffee mill. Yes, it adds more steps to preparing a cup or two of coffee but there's something about the whole process that I really enjoy. Also, nothing beats the smell of fresh ground coffee. Now we just need a gooseneck water kettle and a ceramic coffee dripper.
Our friend Jaypee brought back some coffee beans from his recent trip to Vanuatu and it was the perfect chance to test out the new mill.
Paired the coffee with a Filipino dessert called sapin-sapin (layered rice cake) which Amado only had a few bites of and I was more than happy to finish. I always grab one whenever we go to our local asian market.
That same weekend, Amado planned a Metro Day with a few of his colleagues. Taking the Metro is a great way to explore Los Angeles. You get to see places that you'd normally just pass through when driving. We started our day with brunch at Bottega Louie and walked on over to the library.
After that we hopped back on to the Expo Line and made our way to California Science Center. It was my first time going there. We didn't have much time to explore the whole place because it was packed with people. USC had a game the same day so the area was filled with families. The only exhibit we had a chance to see was the Endeavor. Of all the displays they had for the exhibit, we were really fascinated with the one that explained how astronauts handled going to the bathroom in space. Won't go into details and ruin it for you all, just go the Science Center and make a day out of it.

Juku and Kami
As cute as they look all round and fluffy, I cannot wait til they get groomed.
Usually I get impatient and "try" to do it myself then always feel bad afterwards.
I'm one of those people who doesn't know when to stop when it comes to certain things.
A great example would be my overly manicured eyebrows when I was younger.
I would say mine were a couple of millimeters off from being a chola.
Anyway hopefully the next set that I post photos of Juku and Kami, they'll both be fresh and clean.
Then again we're heading to the beach for Mother's Day so they probably be all muddy.

Saturday Morning
It's rare that Amado and I sleep in during the weekend.
Mainly because we're woken up by these two always wanting to play.
"Ugh there's that camera again!"

His Prized Possession
Well for the moment atleast.
Amado picked up this ceramic knife set at FPAC a couple of weeks ago.
The people working at the booth sensed a guaranteed sale even though we were still 50 feet away.
They didn't have to do much convincing. Amado was hook the first tomato the guy sliced.
It got to the point where Amado was explaining the features to the other people watching the demo.
Ok I will have to agree that this is a pretty amazingly sharp set. But it being ceramic
makes me feel like I have to handle it carefully. I'm sure the "new" novelty will wear off soon
and we'll stop treating it like its a new born child. But for now I have to follow Amado's
instructions on how to take care of the knives.
Yes, he's given me detailed instructions!

Yes, we get giddy with what most consider as ho-hum kinda items.
Like a pen, don't get me started with buying new pens.
I still scour the school supplies section at Target for new pens.
By the way, I was prepping the ingredients for stuffed cabbage in these photos.
Things got a bit messier down the line and I didn't want to handle my camera anymore.
I'll settle for the Instagram photo.
